CSV Import For Your Web Applications... and You Will Be Free!

CSV DATA TOOL Back To CSV Data Tool

Preparing Your CSV File | Importing Data | Verify Imported Data | Undo Import | Export Data To CSV Format | Change Date Format In MS Excel

Note: The following manual uses a sample database table called photo_gallery for demostration on how to utilise the CSV Data Tool component.

 Preparing Your CSV File

1. Click to CSV Data Tool administration area and you will see the guidelines for data import.

2. From the 'Choose Your Data To Import' drop-down menu, select a table name that you want to import new data into. (Figure 1)
Note: Entire tables in your database will be listed here.

3. The page reloads and shows table Columns, Unique Key and Total Records. (Figure 2)

4. Prepare your CSV data file in MS Excel, wherein you must follow the sequence of these columns. (Figure 3)

5. Make sure the Date column comes with "YYYY-MM-DD" date format. (Figure 4)

6. If a column appears as Unique Key, value for this column must be different from each record (not repeated), while Total Records simbolise number of records in the current table.


 Importing Data Top


1. Browse and locate from your computer the CSV file you have just created. (Figure 5)

2. Check 'Import First Record Row' if you wish to import first record row in your CSV file. If the first row of your record contains the column names, do not check. (Figure 6)

3. Choose an import method of either Append Records or Replace All Records.

4. Once done, click on the Import button. You will be prompted a confirmation message, click OK.

 Verify Imported Data Top


1. You may want to verify your data correctness after the import process. For example, click on Photo Gallery > List Photo tab. You will see your updated records housed in a handy list. (Figure 7)

2. From the list, you can edit ( click ), delete ( click ) your data as well as sorting the list by clicking icon on the title bar. (Figure 8)

 Undo Import Top


1. If you have imported unwanted data for any reason, you can undo the import process.

2. Select the table name that you did the data import, click on the Undo button to recover your older records. With this, the previous data is automatically restored back to your database.


 Export Data To CSV Format Top


1. From 'Choose Data To Export' drop-down menu, select a table name that you wish to export its data to you own computer. Click Export. (Figure 9)

2. A File Download dialog box will appear, click on the Save button, select a location on your computer to save the .csv extension file. (Figure 10)

 Change Date Format In MS Excel Top


1. Select the entire Date column, right-click and choose Format Cells.... from the menu. (Figure 11)

2. The Format Cells dialog box will open and bring you to Number tab by default. From the Category list, choose Date, scroll down the Type list on your right and look for date format that match 'YYYY-MM-DD'. If your MS Excel version comes with this built-in format, click OK. (Figure 12)

3. If you can not find the desired date format, pick Custom from the Category List, enter yyyy-mm-dd in the text box provided under Type, then click OK. (Figure 13a & Figure 13b)

4. Back to your MS Excel and you will see all dates are formatted to YYYY-MM-DD format.
