Having A Web Site Is Miserable And Disappointing
by Brian Gan |
Everybody, TV, radio, newspaper, magazine and what amazingly is that your 9 years old baby nephew knows how to switch on the computer, logon to the Internet and check for his emails. People are talking and talking about Internet, web, emails, and you keep seeing WWW everywhere. So many "W"s and so many "…......" (dot) coms.
You're running your business now. Sales are ok, stock is piling at the back and you have pretty good cash flow. But somehow, economy crisis here and there makes you feel little 1% insecure for next few months' sales. You begin to think what the heck is this Internet can do to help your business. People are giving away flyers to do web design. "Low cost web hosting" and "50MB web space" ads catch your eyes every week in your local newspaper. You watch TechTV and they introduce many good sites. Your friends are now asking for your email address instead of your fax number. They will say "I'll email the ____ to you tonight…"
Soon, you find some recommendation from a friend that his son is just graduated, holding Bachelor of Computer Science and he can do web sites. Or, you will find sales people approaching you to get a web site up. They show all their works that they did beautiful web sites. After few follow ups and highly persuaded, oh… you put down your company stamp and confirm the order.
What's next? Yes, your site looks pretty good. It has colorful header and your company logo shines with Flash. You are so proud of it until you reprint all your business cards with your URL on them. You visit your web site at least once and check your emails more than twice a day now to see whether there is any enquiry email.
Days, weeks and months have passed. No results. Instead, you're deleting lots of junk emails or replying some emails to friends that at least keep you on your keyboard. Soon, you start to forget checking your emails and sometimes feeling too lazy to wait for your computer to boot up.
Why? Isn't it that 10 pages of $200 per page web site keep your business up to the trend? Isn't it that your site is so beautiful that anybody who looks at it will quickly send you an enquiry email? Isn't it that it is so professional when a well dressed with neck tie sales man presented you with pages of projects that they have done?
Now, you are sort of disappointed with the $2000 that you invested. If anybody asks you about web site, you won't complain that it doesn't work because you don't want people to think that your web site is lousy. You will say "It can't reach the International market".
As a professional that has been in this field for years, once I was a web designer and I can give you my word. This is not going to work as easy as you think for your business. But I didn't mean that web site is not going to work at all. You can have Internet presence for your business but it's going to take more hard work to get the real results.
Still need a web site? I will definitely say "YES". Then, what's up after all? Why not now you go and take a cup of hot coffee? After you got your mind refresh, take a ride on my free web seminars as below. I guarantee that you will be more aware then.
